Directions to Use Kumkumadi Oil

  3. Do a gentle massage with fingers for at least 5 to 10 minutes. A gentle massage enhances the absorption of the Kumkumadi Tailam.
Note: Washing off the skin reduces the effects of the Kumkumadi oil, so it is recommended that leave it at least 3 hours. People with oily skin should leave it for at least 1 hour and then they can wash the face. People with dry skin should not wash their face at least 3 hours. They can also use it before sleeping and leave its application overnight for more beneficial effects. In blemishes, scars, hyperpigmentation and marks, it should be applied before sleep and leave it for overnight.

Guava unfortunately have a high glycemic index (GI) of 78 which means if not properly monitored it can lead to weight gain or a huge spike in blood sugar levels. However if the sweet fruit is consumed in the proper amounts it will have little to no impact on your blood sugar levels or weight. Like most fruits that greatly benefit your health, it is packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients which help prevent cardiovascular disease, certain types of cancer, and type 2 diabetes.

The guava is an excellent source of vitamin A and C. Did you know that guavas contain four times more Vitamin C than oranges?
A serving (1 cup) of the juicy fruit has: 112 calories, 2 grams of fat, 15 grams of sugar, 4 grams of protein, and 628% of the recommended daily value (DV) of vitamin C. Most of this nutrient is located in the outer thick rind rather than the central pulp. This helps the body develop resistances against viral infections, prevent cellular damage caused by free radicals, and scurvy. There is also 21% of the recommended DV of vitamin A in a single serving, which helps promote healthy mucus membranes and skin. This is linked to lowering the risk of developing respiratory diseases and keeping the skin healthier.

The fruit is a very good source of Vitamin-A, and flavonoids like beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein and cryptoxanthin. The compounds are known to have antioxidant properties and are essential for optimum health. Further, vitamin-A is also required for maintaining healthy mucus membranes and skin. Consumption of natural fruits rich in carotene is known to protect from lung and oral cavity cancers. Guavas are beneficial in regulating blood pressure. It is said that one guava contains almost a similar amount of potassium that's present in bananas. Potassium reverses the effects of sodium, thereby regulating the balance of blood pressure. Also, it reduces cholesterol levels in the blood by preventing it from thickening.

Copper is required for the production of red blood cells. Savoy Cabbage
Cabbage in general—but also Savoy cabbage in particular—turns out to be an especially good source of sinigrin. Sinigrin is one of the cabbage glucosinolates that has received special attention in cancer prevention research. The sinigrin in cabbage can be converted into allyl-isothiocyanate, or AITC. This isothiocyanate compound has shown unique cancer preventive properties with respect to bladder cancer, colon cancer, and prostate cancer. Researchers now realize that different types of cabbage (red, green, and Savoy) contain different patterns of glucosinolates.

New research shows that steaming is a better cooking method than microwaving if you want to maximize the health benefits of glucosinolates found in cabbage. That's because two minutes of microwaving destroys the same amount of myrosinase enzymes as seven minutes of steaming, and you need those myrosinase enzymes to help convert cabbage's glucosinolates into cancer-preventive compounds. Cabbage Caution:

It has excellent skin healing properties. When used as a poultice, cabbage is effective in curing skin eruptions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, rashes, insect bites, leg ulcers; and wounds and arthritis as well. You can prepare the poultice by grating or processing some cabbage in a blender and wrap the content mixed with some water in a cloth. Place it on the affected area for about 15 minutes. You can also crush the leaves and apply them directly on the affected areas. Regular application of this poultice as well as eating cabbage can cause excellent healing.

If you are suffering from pimples or other skin irritations, cabbage can be the solution. All you need to do is steam the upper leaves of cabbage and remove all their veins. Compress the leaves between a linen cloth and cotton to make them smooth and soft. Place the compress on the affected are over the night and experience a spotless skin next morning.

It’s juice is also excellent for improving complexion. It has potassium which is instrumental in purifying your body and skin.

Sulfur is considered as a ‘nature’s beauty mineral’. Because of its drying effect, it plays an important role in drying up oily and acne prone skin. Moreover, it is vital for keratin, a protein substance that is essential for healthy hair, nails and skin. It also helps in cleansing your blood and removing bacteria and toxins from your body.

It’s juice is extremely effective in cleansing your body as cabbages are abundant in vitamin C. If you are suffering from acne, drinking cabbage juice can help in clearing it up. Cabbage juice can also heal infected gums caused by gingivitis.

Applying a mixture of boiled cabbage and freshly squeezed lemon juice on scalp can facilitate hair growth. Mash ½ cup boiled cabbage and 1/8 cup fresh lemon juice in a blender to form a thick paste. Massage this mixture on your scalp, leave it for 30 minutes and then shampoo and condition your hair as usual. This can be done twice a day.

It nourishes your hair, thus providing you with silky, shining hair. Apply its juice on your scalp and the roots of your hair. Shampoo your hair after an hour. This will make your hair smooth and silky.

Stimulate hair growth and prevent hair loss. Apply a mixture of 30 ml cabbage juice and 30 ml cucumber juice on your scalp and hair roots, massage thoroughly for 10-15 minutes before going to bed and wash off the next morning. This should be done thrice a week for maximum benefits.

Raw cabbage juice is also beneficial for dry hair and makes it soft and shiny. Try drinking a mixture of 80 ml raw carrot and cucumber juices and 40 ml raw cabbage juice to get healthy and beautiful hair.

Lavender

Peppermint
has a wonderful cooling effect on the skin. When used in skincare products, it nourishes dull skin and helps balance out oily skin. It can also alleviate bites, stings, burns and scalds, and best of all, peppermint essential oil has a sublimely uplifting aroma, which can enhance memory and alertness.


Lemongrass
is an astringent herb, which constricts the skin, helping to minimise pores and limit oil secretions, which makes it an effective ingredient for skincare products aimed at treating oily skin and acne. Its astringent quality also gives it a temporary skin-firming effect. It is an excellent skincare ingredient as it contains anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties, and it can also help prevent skin infections. You can infuse lemongrass leaves in boiling water to make a facial steam, which opens the pores and clears pimples and blackheads. Follow the treatment by splashing cold water over your face to close the pores.


Gotu kola
is an intriguing herbs. A perennial plant native to India, Japan, China, Indonesia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the South Pacific, it is a member of the parsley family and has no taste or smell. It has been found to inhibit scar formation, can help repair connective tissues and smooth out cellulite. The primary active constituent is triterpenoids, which have a beneficial effect on collagen, which we need to keep skin smooth and supple. (7) Place 50 grams of ground horsetail plant or herbs in a quart or liter of water and boil for 10 minutes, allow some cooling, then filter the liquid into your bath water for a 10 minute bath.

(8) Flower power: Make a tea of calendula, a marigold flower, with five drops of lavender essential oil added, then apply to the affected area twice a day until the irritation is relieved.

(9) Skin three organic carrots and boil them till they're soft. Mash until you get a smooth paste, and then apply to affected areas for 15 minutes. Rinse with cool water when finished.

(10) Mix a tablespoon of medical or food grade ground juniper berry (3), with a tablespoon of sage and a tablespoon of thyme into a cup of boiling water, cover and let stand for five or more minutes. Drink the whole cup after your main meal.

Ayurveda for this cold season

Though the earth is closest to the Sun during this time, it is the coldest month as the northern hemisphere is facing away from the Sun. To battle this cold season and its effects on the body,ayurveda provides some remedies.

In general, due to the change in season, the body's immunity becomes low. This causes some common illnesses and aggravates acute and chronic painful ailments.

According to ayurveda, the body comprises three doshas. The central concept of ayurvedic medicine is that good health exists when there is a balance between three fundamental bodily humors or doshas called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. In winters, Kapha dosha increases due to the chilly weather and leads to cough, cold, and may aggravate sinus or other cold-related problems. Attributes or qualities that define the Kapha constitution are cold, moist, sticky, oily, smooth and sweet. ayurvedic mantra professes that 'liking increases liking,' and to end that, it would be better to refrain from consuming foods that reflect these attributes, this wintry season, so as to avoid an imbalance of the Kapha dosha (constitution) in our body. Those who are of a predominant Kapha constitution need to be more careful during cold weather, as an imbalance in the doshas or constitutions affects both the body and the mind.

In ayurveda, there is an answer to almost all the winter illnesses. According to Dr P Aravind, BAMS, DNYS, a senior medical officer, even chronic diseases like asthma and bronchitis can be cured through ayurveda. "In chronic diseases, there will be a structural weakness, which in turn affects the functions of that organ (lungs, in the case of asthma) and functional weakness will be more prominent. So addressing the functional weakness is more important," he says. Dr Aravind further explains that asthma, in ayurveda, occurs when the vayu path is blocked either by vitiated pitta or vitiated kapha. Hence, during acute cases or during an asthmatic attack, the attack must be controlled immediately by prescribing drugs which have 'scrubbing' property. "Once the attack is controlled and patients come to normal state, we focus on improving the structural weakness. Here, attention is given to decrease vata dosha (vata is the nervous system and is responsible for all movements), thereby strengthening the respiratory tract," he adds.

Many believe that ayurveda takes a longer time to give relief and that is why it's not the first option for joint pains as a person needs instant relief. What is less known is that it can also provide instant pain relief through ayurvedic shoolagnam,(pain relievers) vedanasthapanam (pain moderators) for joint pains. Dr Aravind says, "These internal medicines come in the form of kashayams, arishtams and lehiyams. In addition, external panchkarma treatments such as abhyangam, elakizhi, kateevasti, etc. are carried out. Further, diet is also addressed by the patient avoiding vata aggravating flatulent food items like tubers, peanuts, etc."

There is also an answer to obesity in ayurveda. It is treated as a distinct problem or ailment. Stress, PCOD, etc. are treated for the root cause. After assessing the dominant doshas, diet modification, internal medicines and external panchakarma treatments, depending upon the individual body condition, are prescribed and administered.

  4. Drink at least one to two litres of water in the day.

The juice of green pineapples and apples applied to the face on a daily basis also make a good home remedy for fine wrinkles and cracked skin.
  9. Apply sesame or coconut oil over the face and neck before you go to sleep. Pat the face lightly after application of oil for three to four minutes. Wipe the oil with a soft cloth and then with a wet towel..

Once the solution dries, apply a very small amount of organic 100% extra virgin olive oil, making sure to cover the face and neck.
