Amla juice works wonders for your skin as it is loaded with vitamin C and other antioxidants. Some of the benefits of amla juice for skin are as follows.

Lightens Complexion:
The antioxidants and vitamin C present in amla juice brighten your skin and impart a natural glow to it. Drinking amla juice with the addition of honey or applying it as a face pack is great for making your complexion lighter and brighter. It also keeps your skin free from blemishes.

Anti-ageing Benefits:
Amla juice helps to maintain the youthful look of your skin as it contains a lot of antioxidants. Vitamin C, in particular, acts to keep your skin young for a longer time. Thus, regular intake of amla juice delays the effects of premature ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots etc.

Treatment of Pigmentation:
One of the benefits of drinking amla juice regularly is that it provides you with a glowing and flawless skin. It brightens your skin and reduces pigmentation. You can also apply amla juice on your face with a cotton wool and rinse off after a few minutes. Keep your eyes shut while doing so. Doing this regularly will lighten the marks and pigmentation.

Tones and Tightens Skin:
Decrease in the skin collagen causes your skin tissue to lose its firmness and softness, resulting in sagging skin. As stated earlier, amla juice is rich in vitamin C which boosts the production of collagen cells in the skin, thus making your skin soft, supple and youthful as well as tones and tightens your skin.

Treatment of Acne and Pimples:
Amla juice is perfect for the treatment of acne and pimple scars. Applying a paste made from amla for 10 to 15 minutes will heal the spots as well as decrease the acne and pimples. Moreover, since it is a natural blood purifier, it fights the microorganisms in the skin, thus keeping skin infections as well as acne and pimples at bay. Hence, drinking amla juice on a regular basis helps to keep your skin clear and flawless.

Exfoliates And Cleanses Skin:
Amla juice is an excellent cleanser whether ingested or applied topically. Being a mild exfoliant, it helps in removing the dead skin cells. If your skin is sensitive, you can dilute it with some water before applying.

Repairs Damaged Tissues:
Amla juice has good healing properties due to the presence of vitamin C and other antioxidants which can speed up the damaged tissue repair, thus providing you with a healthy and clear skin. It also combats the problem of dry and scaly skin.

Ayurveda Skincare with Effective Herbs as per the Skin Types

The first step to take good care of your skin is to find out your ayurvedic skin type. Broadly, according to ayurvedic practices, there are three skin types: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. You can get a better understanding of each of these skin types below:

The Vata skin type may be described by skin that is generally dry, thin, delicate and cool to the touch. It is extremely vulnerable to weather conditions, especially dry windy weather and is easily dehydrated. Vata skin may age faster and tends to be dry, rough and flaky when out of balance.

Skin care

Use products with essential oils or herbs in combination which can nourish the skin and re-hydrate it, otherwise it may be susceptible to wrinkles and premature aging.

Here are some suggestions for caring for Vata skin:
  1. Provide added nourishment to your skin by including organic milk, whole grains and green leafy vegetables in your diet.
  2. Drink lots of lukewarm water everyday for internal hydration.
  3. Eat plenty of sweet juicy fruits; they help cleanse the body from within and provide hydration as well.
  4. Include a little healthy fat such as Ghee (clarified butter) or olive oil in your diet for added lubrication.
  5. A warm oil self-massage with a rich massage oil such as the Banyan Botanicals Vata Massage oil
is excellent for keeping skin lubricated.
  6. Use a gentle, all-natural moisturizer like to keep facial skin hydrated. Provide added deep lipid support with Skin Facial Oil.
  7. Get plenty of rest so your mind as well as your body have the opportunity to recharge.
  8. Use a gentle, moisture-balancing cleanser and splash your face with water several times when you cleanse.

Recommended Ayurvedic Vata Skincare Products

People with Pitta skin have fair, sensitive, soft, warm skin of medium thickness. It is also more susceptible to freckles and moles. When out of balance, Pitta skin can erupt in rashes, acne, or sunspots.

Skin care

Your skin needs both cooling and nurturing. Use skin care products that help enhance resistance to the sun. Avoid tanning treatments and therapies that expose your delicate, sensitive skin to steam for extended periods of time.

The ayurvedic herb Flame of Forest can help protect Pitta skin from photo-sensitivity. But like other ayurvedic herbs, it needs to be used in combination with other herbs for a balanced effect on the skin.

To care for Pitta skin, follow these guidelines:
  1. Stay away from harsh, synthetic cosmetics; they can damage your sensitive skin and cause break-outs.
  2. Avoid hot spicy foods and an excess of deep-fried foods; they add heat to an already fiery constitution.
  3. Eat lots of sweet juicy fruits and have some Organic Rose Petal Spread in cool milk every day. The rose is considered cooling for mind, body and emotions.
  4. Use a cooling oil, for the daily massage.
  5. Cook with cooling spices such as fennel and licorice.
  6. Take extra care to protect your skin when you go out in the sun.
  7. Use gentle, natural skin care products for cleansing and moisturizing.

With all the qualities of water and earth, kapha skin is oily, thick, pale, soft, cool and more tolerant of the sun. It tends to age slower and form less wrinkles than the other two types. Those with this skin type may be faced with problems of dull complexion, enlarged pores, excessive oil, blackheads, and pimples, moist types of eczema and water retention.

Skin care
Cleanse your skin from within by scrubbing and exfoliating regularly to remove toxins. People with Kapha skin need to do detoxification on a regular basis, both internal detoxification and external detoxification to flush toxins from the skin.

Scrubbing the skin with a gentle exfoliating clay can help external cleansing. Kapha skin types may also need to take herbal formulations to cleanse the skin from within.

Some suggestions for caring for Kapha skin:
  1. Avoid too many sweet foods or deep-fried foods, they add to the oiliness in the skin.
  2. Exercise everyday to improve circulation.
  3. A daily warm oil massage can also help circulation.
  4. Eat plenty of organic vegetables and fruits to help cleanse the body from within.
  5. Cleanse your skin twice everyday; exfoliate with a mud-mask at least once a week.
  6. Cook with warming spices such as ginger and black pepper to stoke the digestive fire and inhibit the accumulation of amainside the body.
