Fennel Tea for Eliminating Water Retention

Fennel is an aromatic herb belonging to the parsley family. It is used as a spice and possesses a sweet taste that is similar to anise. It is a two meter plant with dark green leaves and yellow flowers. Fennel seeds are generally eaten for the taste but also very healthy owing to the nutrition value attached to it.

Fennel is a symbol of strength and longevity. Apart from being used for adding flavor, it is also used for various health benefits that are derived from its anti-oxidants. These anti-oxidants are essential to curb unwanted free radical reactions in the body. The potassium content helps in maintaining the blood pressure and hence the heart rate is also maintained.

Fennel seeds have in them anethole, the compound which give it the anise flavor and is responsible for most of its medicinal values. Fennel tea had been used in traditional medicine as a cure for water retention due to its diuretic properties. A study published in the ‘Clinical and Experimental Hypertension’ in 2011 stated that fennel extract reduced systolic blood pressure which was the effect of an increased release of sodium and water from the kidneys. So, use fennel seeds to eliminate water retention in your body.

Make fennel tea for water retention
Get this:
Fennel seeds- ½ tsp
Boiling water- 1 cup

Do this:
Place fennel seeds in a cup.
Pour hot water over it.
Cover and steep for 5-10 minutes.
If you wish, you may drain otherwise drink the tea with seeds in it. Chew the seeds for better digestion.
Have fennel tea 2-3 times a day.
